The AFL Record – Grand Final 2018

RECORD-1

The AFL Record is the official program available at Australian Football League matches and in newsagents, and online.  The publication began as the Football Record in Melbourne, Australia in 1912, making it one of the oldest magazines in Australia.

In July 2018 it was announced that AFL has sold the football record and its related products to Crocmedia in an $8.1 million deal.  The sports media company will take over all weekly match-day magazine content, including the AFL Record, AFLW publications, the AFL Season Guide and the Toyota AFL Grand Final edition magazine.

I have a Newsagency copy of this year’s AFL Grand Final magazine, the copies being sold on match day at the MCG ( Melbourne Cricket Ground ) have a white cover, distinguishing them from the products sold at the newsagencies.  I bought my copy for $15 because the West Coast Eagles (WCE) of Western Australia played in the Final and won against the Collingwood Magpies, and I support the WCE.

As I couldn’t find any reviews of the magazine, I decided to review it myself.  The magazine is substantial with 240 pages with plenty of information and colour pages, and a huge range of interesting information.  It is well worth buying just for its “Match Centre pages” which in this Grand Final edition, includes A4 posters of the 2 competing teams, all player profiles, and Club histories.

Other elements of this magazine are the Grand Final Honour Roll, listing all past wins, and a Season Review being a snapshot of the matches leading up to the Grand Final in September 2018.  Below are some images of pages from the magazine.
